09:31 pm - Exciting night Four exciting games last night. I ended up winning 3 of them but I was happy with my play on all of them, even the one that got away. In that game, I was pleased to find the bingo in ?ABMNOU. Also happy for finding TWILIT to reach the TWS near the end to give myself a chance to win. But alas, the perfect score wasn't meant to be. Maybe next week :)
Phoney alert! Try to identify the uglies on boards 1, 3 and 4.

03:59 pm - Bit by common words
The non-native English speaker in me reared its ugly head again last club session. In my second game I challenged TEETHES, which I later learned is how you spell the word when a child is cutting teeth. Ironically, the same game I played the not too common TENTAGES. Sadly, my opponent held it but did not challenge for he needed the S to play a bingo. Another booboo in that game was that I lost it because of a careless 1 point mistake in counting a score. Should have been a tie. Well, should have been a win actually if I saw the out in two.

09:42 pm - Making the sound play So my first opponent passed on his first play. He didn't exchange but just passed. I was holding AAIOTVQ and exchanged AAOVQ leaving IT. Turns out he was holding DNORSSU. Later simulations suggest SOUND for him, and QAT for me after he passed. I'm wondering now if that sim considered my opponent passing (it didn't like my exchange any bit, QI came in second).

11:38 pm - What does HENRY and ABHENRY have in common? Well, they are actually the same. Just like VOLT and ABVOLT. They all take an S too. I was pretty sure about ABHENRYS (remember I know all the 8s that starts with an A), but held Mike Thelen when he hooked an S to HENRY. Thankfully I let the play go. Played some phonies this week, including a very embarrassing phoney three. I will let you identify them from the pictures.

09:45 pm - I feel strongly about these I like these seemingly misspelled words. Some examples are LIMITARY, NOMARCH and LEVATOR.

01:06 pm - I can still hear the catcalls
Gee, when am I gonna get the 4s right? Played miao* thinking of MIAOU and MEOW. It's obvious I thought it was valid for I let my opponent hook an S (amateurs 'r us). Two redeeming plays were seeing the only bingos in ADLLNOR? and EEGINRS.

10:33 pm - Phoneying is not an art form I don't know why, but I've always eschewed phonies. One of my biggest motivations in studying is to not allow my opponents from playing phonies. I always considered my wins tainted if I played a phony along the way. As far as I can remember, I never played a word I was 100% certain that is not legit.
Sadly, last week's session was a phoney bonanza. Even more sadly, I played a phoney 4 again (dely* challenged by Mike T.). And hooked an S to BEDU which Mike challenged off again. Glad to report though that I finished 3 -1 against strong competition.

06:08 pm - These bingos might put me OVER the top Our club runs the Alphabet Bingo Challenge. Every week, a letter is designated and if you play a bingo with that letter as the first or second letter, you score a point. At the end of 26 weeks, whoever got the most points wins thirteen handsome bucks. Second place is snack money ($8) and third is dessert dough ($5). After 21 weeks, I'm leading Mike Thelen by 2 points. Last week's designated letter was the letter V and I played three "V" bingos: OVERMANS, OVERLIT and OVERSEES giving me a nice cushion. Let's see if my lead holds after the "Z" week.

01:21 pm - More bang for the buck Got in 5 games this week instead of the usual 4. Cruised through my first 4 games until I hit a wall called Mike Thelen. I'm pleased with my play overall, though I played a phony 8: outclean*. Gotta remember that to avoid losing a turn in the future.
